The Future of Public Relations

Ivy Ledbetter Lee is continued to be studied in regards to his developments for Public Relations as a whole. His methods have made their way through the past and are still studied today.

He preached the idea of honesty, most notable from the Pennsylvannia Railroad accident, which proved to be fatal. The executive wanted to keep the whole situation under wraps, but Ivy Lee knew that information that is found rather than told can be lethal. He believed in getting out ahead of information. Presenting a problem before it becomes one, to foster trust with the press.

Companies today try and do the same thing. When Tylennol was faced with potential lethal tampering of their bottles in stores, they immediately told media outlets and created a solution. Known today as the tamper proof seal that can be found on any bottle.
